(tsp) — Truly the Hustlers of Cupcakes

As some of you may know, my hometown Stoke on Trent has made the final shortlist for City of Culture 2021. For some, this isn’t a big deal. However, I am passionate about our city and feel this can only move us forward in terms of investment and opportunities.

One of the most up and coming areas is the cultural quarter in Hanley, home to many independent businesses. Tsp (arguments could be had over whether you say this teaspoon or t-s-p) is a cafe with plenty of seating that serves delicious breakfasts, lunches and snacks. Also on the offering is ‘High Tsp’ – their version of Afternoon tea (which I am dying to try).

The dishes on the menu run from scarily healthy, things such as granola, to indulgent items such as pancakes with Nutella, banana and peanut butter. There are also many options for vegetarians and vegans, making it all round a great choice for all.

From my experiences, they don’t call themselves the ‘Hustlers of Cupcakes’ for nothing. In my opinion, I’d say this was their specialty and usually I find myself steering their way should I fancy a sweet treat. I have sampled the cookie dough (a vanilla cupcake with cookie dough flavoured frosting, chocolate chips throughout and a cookie to decorate), I have also sampled the Eton mess (a vanilla cupcake with a raspberry whipped cream topping laced with meringue pieces). My personal favourite though has to be given to the completely vegan friendly Oreo cupcake (a chocolate sponge with a complete Oreo biscuit at the base topped with a frosting I’m sure God himself created); it tastes of cake batter in my opinion and if I could solely live of this I’d be a vegan.

It’s definitely worth a visit!
